Facebook Live Not Working? Reset Your Facebook Connection

If your live stream is not reaching Facebook, the best place to start is by creating a completely fresh connection—or “handshake”—between Sermon Studio and Facebook.

Facebook controls its own permissions and may occasionally update or reset them without notice. Reconnecting your account will often resolve the issue.

Follow these steps exactly

  1. Go directly to Facebook.com and completely log out of Facebook. This is an important first step.
  2. Sign in to your Sermon Studio account.
  3. Go to the Simulcast page.
  4. Delete the current Facebook connection.
  5. Refresh the Simulcast page and confirm that the Facebook connection is completely gone.
  6. Select Add Facebook and sign back into Facebook directly from within Sermon Studio.
  7. Select the correct church or ministry Facebook Page from the dropdown menu.

This creates a fresh connection with Facebook and will often get your simulcast working again.

Confirm that you are using a Facebook Page

For the most reliable experience, your church or ministry should have its own Facebook Page.

After reconnecting, make sure you select the correct Page—not a personal profile—from the destination dropdown.

Facebook does not currently allow our integration to publish live streams directly into Facebook Groups. Use a ministry Facebook Page as your simulcast destination instead.

If the problem keeps returning

There may be something unique happening with your Facebook account or its permissions.

As a preventative measure, you may want to repeat this reset:

  • Weekly
  • Every two weeks
  • Monthly
  • Before an especially important broadcast

The process only takes a minute and ensures that Sermon Studio has a fresh connection with Facebook.
